Google Business Profile suspended: causes, the appeal, and help

A Google Business Profile suspended by Google disappears for the public, and the owner and managers cannot act on it until it is reinstated. The cause is almost always a guideline problem that can be found and fixed before you appeal. We set up Google Business Profiles for service-area contractors as part of our SEO work, and we help suspended ones through the appeal. We never promise the outcome, because Google decides it.

// FIRST, DO NOT MAKE IT WORSE

Two things Google says not to do after a suspension

Do not create a new profile for the same business while your appeal is under review. Google says this on its suspended and disabled profiles page, and a second profile is a duplicate under the guidelines anyway.

Do not submit several appeals. Google’s appeals page asks for one appeal per issue, says decisions can take up to 5 business days, and requires any evidence within 60 minutes of submitting. An appeal filed in a panic, before the cause is fixed, uses your best shot.

// WHY PROFILES GET SUSPENDED

Six causes, taken from Google’s own guidelines

Google’s suspension notice links to a policy, not a detailed reason. These are the rules in the Google Business Profile guidelines and the policy restrictions page that trade businesses run into most.

01

Extra words in the business name

Google’s guidelines say unnecessary information in the name "could result in the suspension of your Business Profile." For a contractor that usually means a service or city added to the name, such as "Smith Plumbing Emergency Water Heater Repair Dallas", when the sign and paperwork say "Smith Plumbing".

02

An address the business does not operate from

Google states that a virtual office, a rented mailing address the business does not work from, is not eligible for a Business Profile, and neither is a P.O. box.

03

A service-area business showing its address

If customers do not come to you, Google’s guidelines say to hide the business address and set a service area instead. Many plumbers, HVAC techs and roofers run as service-area businesses.

04

More than one profile for one location

The guidelines say not to create more than one profile for each location, in one account or several. Duplicates made by a previous agency, a directory tool or a second owner count.

05

Fake reviews or paid engagement

Google can restrict profiles under its Fake Engagement policy: blocking new reviews, unpublishing existing ones, or showing a warning that fake reviews were removed. That is a restriction rather than a suspension, with its own appeal.

06

A business that is not eligible

Google says a profile needs a physical location customers can visit, or a business that travels to customers. Online-only businesses and lead-generation brands with no real location or crew do not qualify.

// THE REINSTATEMENT SERVICE

How our Google Business Profile reinstatement service works

The work is diagnosis and preparation. Google reviews the appeal; we make sure the profile you are asking it to review actually follows the rules.

01

Read the notice

Suspended, disabled, or a review restriction? Each has a different route. We read the exact wording in your account and the policy Google links to.

02

Audit against the guidelines

Name, address or service area, categories, duplicates, website and phone. We check the profile against Google’s own rules, not a rumor list.

03

Fix the cause first

An appeal on a profile that still breaks a guideline is an appeal to be declined. The name gets corrected, the address hidden, the duplicate dealt with, before anything is submitted.

04

Gather matching evidence

Business registration, license, tax certificate or utility bill, with the name and address matching the profile. Google requires evidence within 60 minutes of submitting.

05

Submit one appeal

You submit it through Google’s appeals tool from your account, with us on the call. One appeal only: Google says not to file several for the same issue.

// FIT

Who should not pay for reinstatement help

Some suspensions come down to a name correction and a single appeal you can file yourself from Google’s help page. Save your money if any of these fit:

  • The business runs from a virtual office or a P.O. box, and there is no real location or service area behind it. No appeal fixes eligibility.
  • You cannot produce documents where the business name and address match the profile, and you do not want to change the profile to match reality.
  • You want a guaranteed reinstatement. Google makes the decision, and anyone who promises the outcome is promising something they do not control.
  • An appeal is already pending. Google asks businesses not to submit multiple appeals, so wait for that decision first.

// PRICING

A fixed quote after we read the notice

Reinstatement help is quoted as one fixed number once we have read the suspension notice and audited the profile. A name correction and a cleanup of duplicate profiles made by an old agency are different jobs, so we do not publish one price for both. No hourly billing.

Profile live but not appearing on the map? That is a different problem, covered in Google Business Profile not showing up. For the long game, see our SEO project, which includes a service-area profile set up to the guidelines, and the review system for getting genuine reviews without breaking the fake engagement policy.

Get in touch
Why was my Google Business Profile suspended?

Google says it may suspend or disable profiles that do not follow its guidelines. The common causes in those guidelines are extra words in the business name, an ineligible address such as a virtual office or P.O. box, a service-area business showing an address customers do not visit, duplicate profiles, and an ineligible business type. The notice in your account links to the policy Google applied.

Can you guarantee my profile will be reinstated?

No. Google decides every appeal. What we do is find the guideline problem, fix it before the appeal, and help you submit one clean appeal with evidence that matches the profile. If the business is not eligible for a profile, we tell you that before you pay for anything.

How long does a Google Business Profile appeal take?

Google’s appeals page says reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days. You can check the status in the Google Business Profile appeals tool, and Google emails the decision.

Should I create a new profile while I wait?

No. Google’s help page for suspended profiles says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business while an appeal is under review. A second profile also counts as a duplicate under the guidelines.

What evidence does Google accept?

Google lists documents such as an official business registration, a business license, tax certificates and utility bills, where the business name and address match the profile. Evidence must be submitted within 60 minutes of the appeal or it is not attached.

What does a reinstatement service cost?

We give you a fixed quote after reading the suspension notice and auditing the profile, because a name correction and a duplicate-profile cleanup are very different amounts of work. No hourly billing, and no charge dressed up as a guarantee.
