Yes, the ServiceM8 app works offline for the basics. If a job already synced to the phone, a tech can open the job, update it, and save notes and photos with no signal.
- Offline changes in the ServiceM8 app sync across the account when the phone is back in range.
- Final PDF quotes, invoices and Forms, plus email and text messages, need coverage or internet.
- The job and client details must already be on the phone. The ServiceM8 app does a full update of active jobs when the phone is near Wi-Fi.
- On iPhone, turn on Background App Refresh and leave notifications on for ServiceM8. With notifications off, jobs take much longer to sync down.
- ServiceM8 does not say what happens to card payments, new jobs or checklist ticks offline. Test those before you count on them.
- ServiceM8's offline FAQ does not name iPhone or Android. Test an Android phone in airplane mode.

Quick answer: Yes, the ServiceM8 app works offline for the basics. If a job already synced to the phone, a tech can open the job, update it, and save notes and photos with no signal. Those changes sync when the phone is back in range. Final PDF quotes, invoices and Forms, plus email and text messages, do not work until the phone has coverage or internet.
Does ServiceM8 work with no cell signal?
Yes. ServiceM8’s FAQ says “ServiceM8 does work offline in the mobile app.”
There is one condition. The job and client details must already be on the device. A job that never synced down is not there to open.
What works offline in ServiceM8 and what does not?
| Task | With no signal |
|---|---|
| View synced job and client details | Works |
| Update a job | Works, syncs later |
| Save job notes | Works, syncs later |
| Save job photos | Works, syncs later |
| Create an asset (Asset Type already in the account) | Works, syncs later |
| Produce a final PDF quote or invoice | Needs a connection |
| Produce a final Form | Needs a connection |
| Send an email or text message | Needs a connection |
ServiceM8’s help page does not say what happens to card payments, new jobs or checklist ticks offline, so don’t count on those until you test them.
What happens to my notes and photos when the signal comes back?
ServiceM8 says “When you are back in range, those changes sync across your account.”
ServiceM8’s help page does not say how long that sync takes, or whether the app must be open for it to run. Open the app once you have bars and check the job before you drive off.
How do I get jobs onto the phone before I lose signal?
ServiceM8 says the app does a full update when the phone is near Wi-Fi, such as at the office. The app updates all active jobs and downloads current photos.
Two phone settings matter too. ServiceM8 uses push notifications to tell the app when to sync.
- Open the phone’s Settings and tap ServiceM8.
- Turn on Background App Refresh.
- Tap Notifications and leave notifications on.
With notifications fully off, ServiceM8 says jobs take much longer to sync down. Those steps are written for iPhone.
Does the ServiceM8 Android app work offline?
ServiceM8’s offline FAQ says “the mobile app” and does not name iPhone or Android. ServiceM8’s Android help page does not mention offline use at all.
ServiceM8 does say the iOS and Android apps are “nearly identical”. That points to yes, but test it: put an Android phone in airplane mode, add a note and a photo to a job, then reconnect. More on that app in Does ServiceM8 work on Android.
How do I quote or invoice from a basement with no signal?
You can’t finish the PDF down there. Here is an example of a routine that works with what ServiceM8 documents:
- Open the job in the truck while you still have signal.
- In the basement, save notes and photos of the old water heater to the job.
- Walk back up to where the phone has coverage or Wi-Fi.
- Produce the quote or invoice and send it.
If the customer has Wi-Fi, ask to join it.
